About us
Hello and thank you for visiting the site, I will try not to waffle on too much about how good we are at what we do,-but we are!
I have been a decorator for 30 years and have City & Guilds certificates in Advanced Decorative Work, Colour & Design, Principles of Construction, Building Mathematics (very boring), all gained with Distinctions.
I was a part time lecturer at Brunel Technical College Decorating School for a few years and also taught at the Somerset School of Art & Design.
My work has taken me to the Middle East where I had the privilege of decorating a small palace-I did actually have 15 men working for me so it wasn't too arduous, we carried out all the decorative work including an enormous amount of gilding (both gold and silver leaf) acres of paint finishes and a good suntan.
Other work has been done in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Rabat, Cairo, Paris,St. Tropez, Cannes and of course Bristol and most of the U.K.
I do some occasional work as a consultant for a paint manufacturer and have written specifications and reports on a number of public buildings and monuments.
Mostly I like to have a brush in my hand and a tin to sit on at lunch time.
My son Daniel has been working with me for many years and has undergone a very thorough grounding in decorating. He now runs projects for me including ordering materials, scheduling work, supervising the job and being 'hands on'.He started by cleaning brushes and paint kettles during school holidays and graduated to rubbing down and sweeping up, when I thought that he had learned to do all the **** work I let him start with a paint brush (he is very good) but it was in the field of spraying that he showed a natural ability and within a very short time he was being 'borrowed' by cabinet makers to finish some very expensive pieces for them.
That's enough self praise (I am english!) and the proof of -----

What we can do
As well as a very high standard of decorating both internal and external we specialise in paint finishes' all the normal stuff, but really enjoy using multiple layers of glazes and transluscent colours which we mix ourselves from very pure pigments and often from our own home brew megilps.
Paint finishes have been around for thousands of years and while ours might not last that long, they can last for many decades if properly done and maintained.
Murals are another of our favourites- anything from a simple scheme for a childs room to a more formal scene for a "posh" room or office/reception lobby.
BUILDING WORK.- Over the years we have beeen involved in restoring old houses and have rebuilt roofs, stonework, ironwork, cornices, used lime mortars, built patios and decking, designed bathrooms and kitchens - in fact pretty much anything to do with houses. Whilst I can't pretend to do all of these things myself, I know what has to be done and have a number of highly skilled tradesmen that I have worked with and built up a good relationship with, that I can call on. Basically we try to offer a one stop shop where we can organise and carry out any work you might need using a team that has worked together on many occasions and are all house trained and polite (as long as you keep the tea coming).
WINDOWS- The bane of old houses and a constant problem if not working properly. They don't always have to be replaced, using modern epoxy resins and timber treatments we can repair most windows on site and in position.
